Pedestrian dies in Springfield cemetery following hit-and-run

The investigation remains ongoing.

The impact of a fatal hit-and-run crash in Springfield on Monday propelled a pedestrian onto the property of St. Michael’s Cemetery, police say.

At 7:24 p.m., officers responded to the area of Boston Road and Berkshire Avenue where a female pedestrian had been struck by a car and sent into the cemetery grounds, according to a statement from the Springfield Police Department. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Authorities say the driver was not at the scene when police arrived.

Officers later located and arrested the 18-year-old suspect, Nathan Colon of Springfield, who is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash causing death and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, on the 0-100 block of Lakevilla Avenue, officials said.
