A 14-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon on Cape Cod when an SUV crashed into a boat trailer on the side of the road.
According to Yarmouth police, a truck towing a boat on a trailer had pulled off due to a broken axle. Passengers, including the teen, then got out to fix it. While they were working on it, a Cadillac SUV traveling south on North Main Street crashed into the trailer from behind, causing it to hit the group. Police received multiple 911 calls at about 1 p.m. reporting that a person was pinned between a boat and the vehicle towing it.
The Yarmouth Fire Department’s Heavy Rescue team was requested to the scene, which was on North Main Street just south of the Great Western Road intersection.
In addition to the 14-year-old, two others were taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Their conditions weren’t immediately available.
“The operator of the Cadillac remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said, adding the crash remains under investigation.
