Pedestrian dies in Wakefield crash

A 38-year-old woman struck a man with her car.

Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Water Street in Wakefield, authorities say.

Preliminary information suggests that Joseph Dow, 78, of Wakefield, was walking on Water Street when a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E that was exiting a driveway adjacent to Water Street struck him, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Police said the 38-year-old female driver remained at the scene.

Dow was transported to Melrose/Wakefield Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the statement said.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Wakefield Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police detectives are investigating the incident.
