Costco’s pre-packaged salads were recalled for being mislabeled — now that recall is being upgraded in severity. Those with soy and almond allergies beware.
The Food and Drug Administration recalled around 1,000 pre-packaged salads in early July. Now that recall has been declared a Class I recall, according to MassLive.
This means it can cause serious adverse health or death. The other categories, Class II and Class III, indicate suffering adverse health consequences after consumption may be remote and temporary and consumption of the recalled product is unlikely to cause any adverse health effects, respectively, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The Grain + Celery salads were recalled because they were mislabeled as Grain + Vegetable salads. This mislabeling could mean the salads contained soy and almonds undeclared on the packaging and, therefore, runs the risk of those who are severely allergic to either of those ingredients unknowingly consuming them.
These mislabeled salads may have been distributed to 16 states, including California, Nevada, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia.
