Boston Harbor has been the site of multiple whale sightings in recent weeks. NBC10Boston photographer Mark Garfinkel spotted a whale breaching in the harbor on Aug. 7.
Another #Boston Harbor whale sighting. I photographed this today between Deer Island and Long Island bridge at 2pm. The whale was mingling with dozens of fishing boats that were chasing striped bass. @NOAAFisheries – @NBC10Boston photo by Mark Garfinkel pic.twitter.com/zIHM0UMRW1

In addition, Nantucket resident Nicole Ridge sent Boston.com a picture of a whale she saw breaching in the harbor on Aug. 8.

A representative from Boston Harbor City Cruises previously told Boston.com that finding a whale in the harbor is rare, but not unprecedented. The representative said it’s important that boats keep a wide berth from the animal and do not try to approach it.
