Suspect in Brockton murder arrested at Logan Airport, DA says

Marcus Miranda, 20, was allegedly attempting to leave the country, according to Plymouth County DA Timothy Cruz.

A man wanted in a Brockton murder case was arrested Monday at Logan Airport where he was allegedly attempting to board a plane to Portugal, authorities announced.

Marcus Miranda, 20, was arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court on the charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Brockton police responded around 11:51 p.m. on July 24 to reports of a shooting on Vesey Street, according to authorities. Inside a home there, officers found a man, later identified as 22-year-old Romualdy Pierre-Charles, who had been shot 11 times.

According to the DA’s office, surveillance video showed three people wearing black clothing approach the Vesey Street home. During the shooting, one of the suspects was wounded in the leg.

That man was later identified by authorities as Govanni Carapinha, 23. Prosecutors say Miranda and another, unidentified man helped Carapinha into a car and drove him to Boston Medical Center after the shooting. There, surveillance video captured Miranda and the unidentified man pushing Carapinha into the hospital, the DA said.

Miranda pleaded not guilty to the charges against him on Tuesday and was ordered held without bail, according to the DA’s office. Caraphina remains at Boston Medical Center for treatment and is expected to be arraigned on the same charges as Miranda at a later date, prosecutors said.

An attorney for Miranda declined to comment on the case.
