The body of a teen boy who went missing from Lynn last week was found on Tuesday, authorities announced.
The body of Brian Lopez, 17, was found in Walden Pond in the Lynn Woods Reservation, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said in a press conference.
Lopez was first reported missing on Friday, July 26. The search for him “very quickly” ramped up to a multi-agency operation, Lynn Police Chief Christopher Reddy said during the press conference.
Reddy said a group of young men who were fishing found Lopez’s body in Walden Pond in the reservation and alerted Saugus police, who initially responded to the scene.
Authorities identified Lopez via his clothes and “personal accessories,” including a backpack he wore in video footage, Tucker said.
Tucker and Reddy said they spoke with Lopez’s family.
“We let them know that we have done everything we were able to do,” Tucker said.
Authorities do not suspect foul play at this time, and there is no current threat to the public, according to the DA.
“The main purpose of today is to just let folks know the search is over,” he said.
Lopez had recently begun working at a Lynn-based nonprofit called the Food Project, where he quickly impressed the staff with his dedication and passion, the organization said earlier this week.
