A Fall River police officer is facing multiple charges connected to a domestic assault, according to court records.
Marc Correia was arraigned Friday on two felony charges and a misdemeanor. He is facing felonies of intimidation of a witness and improperly storing a firearm, as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a family member.
He was released on his own personal recognizance on Friday, according to court records.
The Fall River Herald News reported Tuesday that 32-year-old Correia, a K-9 officer, was placed on administrative leave with pay, according to the Fall River Police Chief Paul Gauvin.
The Herald News reported that a family member of the alleged victim filed the report the night before Correia was arrested, and that Correia’s duty belt was allegedly improperly stored and accessible to children.
Correia’s K-9 Satu joined the department in 2021, according to a department Facebook post. The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office shared that Correia’s father Raymond was also a K-9 handler with the Fall River Police Department.
