Dartmouth College officials suspended two Greek organizations as authorities continue to investigate the death of 20-year-old student Won Jang.

“Dartmouth has suspended two Greek organizations, Beta Alpha Omega and Alpha Phi, as the investigation continues, and we are working closely with the Hanover Police Department, which is leading the investigation,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Boston.com.

Jang was found dead Sunday in the Connecticut River. Officials said that foul play is not suspected. He was last seen Saturday night at an “informal social gathering,” near docks in the area of 8 Boathouse Road. He was reported missing after not showing up to an engagement on Sunday.

Police, firefighters, and teams with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department scoured the river and the surrounding area. Jang’s body was found about 65 feet offshore Sunday evening.

Investigators are reportedly working to determine whether alcohol and hazing were involved in Jang’s death.

“There is some evidence of alcohol involved, certainly from witnesses and talking with things like that. Again, that’s all part of our investigation. We did receive an anonymous email this morning through the college that there may be some hazing involved, so we certainly will look into that aspect, too,” Hanover Police Chief Charles Dennis told WMUR.

A biomedical engineering student, Jang was a member of Beta Alpha Omega, Dartmouth officials said.

“The entire Dartmouth community is grieving over the tragic loss of Won Jang. Our counseling team has been by the family’s side since yesterday, and Dartmouth is providing every possible support it can to Won’s parents, family and friends,” the Dartmouth spokesperson said.
