A Mansfield fire truck was left badly damaged after a tractor-trailer slammed into the emergency vehicle on Interstate 495 southbound Sunday morning, according to the Mansfield Fire Department.
The fire truck was responding to a car crash at about 4:30 a.m. near Exit 27 in Norton when the tractor-trailer struck the engine and drove off, the department said in a press release posted to Facebook.
“No one was in the Engine at the time and there were no injuries from the secondary accident,” the fire department said. “The Engine has sustained significant damage to the front passenger’s side of the vehicle.”
In a comment below the press release, the department clarified that while there was one Massachusetts State Police trooper on scene at the time, he was tied up responding to the initial car crash and was not able to pursue the tractor-trailer.
According to the press release, the tractor-trailer is white and now has significant damage to the front driver’s side. The Mansfield Fire Department is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has information on the incident to contact State Police at 508-543-8550.
