Shuttle buses called in after driver winds up on MBTA tracks at Savin Hill

Police said the driver was arrested around 12:30 p.m. and charged with unlicensed and negligent operation.

Red Line commuters were delayed Tuesday afternoon after a driver crashed onto the tracks at the Savin Hill Stop, transit officials said.

MBTA Transit Police shared a video of crews attempting to tow the black SUV off the right of way. Police said the driver was arrested around 12:30 p.m. and charged with unlicensed and negligent operation.

Around 1 p.m., the MBTA said shuttle buses would replace service between JFK/UMass and Ashmont while crews inspected the tracks for damage.

The T said maintenance personnel were making track repairs “and working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible,” just before 3 p.m.

Just before 5 p.m., the shuttle buses were phased out, and regular service resumed between JFK and Ashmont. The Mattapan Trolley operated as scheduled throughout the delay.
