A 51-year-old Hingham man was arrested after an alleged road rage incident where he strangled another man and beat him with a police-style metal baton, police said.
Gregory Knowles is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, assault and battery, and witness intimidation, Cohasset police said. He was arrested Friday night around 11 p.m.
Earlier that night, Knowles was driving his Jeep on Route 3A near Sohier Street in Cohasset, police said. A 34-year-old man from South Boston told police that during a road rage incident, the driver of the Jeep stopped his car in front of him and beat him.
The alleged victim said Knowles used an expandable metal police baton to strike him on his head and body and strangled him. Police said the man “sustained visible injuries” but declined medical treatment.
While he fled, the South Boston man wrote down his license plate number.
Cohasset police said they later went to Knowles’s home “and identified him as the alleged assailant.” Knowles was arrested, and police found the baton when they searched his Jeep, according to the department. He was arraigned on all charges Monday in Quincy District Court.
