A Fall River man wanted for murder in connection with a February fatal shooting has been arrested in Georgia, authorities announced.
Kevin Barton, 32, was shot by law enforcement during his arrest on Tuesday, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said in a statement. He is in stable condition at a Georgia hospital.
Barton is charged in connection with the February 9th fatal shooting of Joshua Medieros near the intersection of Nashua and Blackstone streets in Fall River. The DA’s office said Barton has been indicted on charges of murder, carrying an illegal firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, larceny, and possession of a large capacity firearm.
The 32-year-old was indicted on the charges in May.
“Law enforcement officials have been actively seeking to locate and apprehend the defendant for the past six weeks,” the DA’s office said.
Prosecutors said Barton will be charged in Georgia as a fugitive from justice and that it is unclear when he will be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment in Fall River Superior Court.
