A 14-year-old boy died in a dirt bike crash in Wareham over the weekend.
At about 12:37 p.m. on Saturday, police, EMS, and firefighters responded to a motocross track at 131 Atwood Farm Way in East Wareham, according to Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office.
The teen was found with serious injuries. He was brought to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, where he was pronounced dead. The boy’s name has not been released by authorities.
While en route to the scene of the dirt bike crash, a Wareham police officer was involved in a separate motor vehicle crash. They were also transported to Tobey Hospital. That officer suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the department.
The dirt bike crash occurred at Diamond MX, the company confirmed in a Facebook post.
“This is a part of business nobody enjoys or plans for,” the post reads.
In 2021, a 13-year-old Carver girl died after being involved in a crash at the same facility, which at the time was owned by Wareham MX. That company went defunct in June 2022, and the facility was purchased by Diamond Collision Specialists Inc. in Sept. 2022, according to The Boston Globe.
