A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed outside Market Basket in Lynn Saturday night, police said.
Police responded to the grocery store on Federal Street just after 9 p.m., where they found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound inside his vehicle, according to Lynn police. The 17-year-old, who was not identified, was transported to Salem Hospital where he died.
Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker told reporters Sunday that multiple shots struck the 17-year-old’s vehicle, which then rolled into a ravine and some bushes.
Lynn police, working with the Massachusetts State Police, said the incident was not random. Tucker said the 17-year-old was targeted.
“It’s been a very busy night, and unfortunately, gun violence has been visited upon two very good communities,” Tucker said, referring to a shooting in Methuen. “We’re doing everything we can to bring the people responsible for justice.”
The two shootings are not connected, according to officials.
Lynn police are asking anyone with any information about the shooting to call 781-595-2000 or email [email protected].
