‘I am disgusted’: Gov. Healey slams State Police trooper’s vulgar texts about Karen Read
“It’s terrible. It’s completely unprofessional. It does harm, frankly, to the dignity and integrity of the work of men and women across the State Police and law enforcement,” Healey said.
Gov. Maura Healey slammed the State Police’s lead investigator in the Karen Read case for his self-described “juvenile” and “unprofessional” text messages demeaning Read.
“As a former attorney general, and as governor, I am disgusted by that,” Healey said Thursday when asked by News Channel 5 whether such conduct is appropriate for a State Police trooper or anyone else.
Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor testified Monday about his text messages with friends, family, and colleagues while investigating the death of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe. Proctor admitted on the stand that he called Read, who is facing murder charges, a “wack job c**nt” and “retarded” and made comments about her physical appearance.

Proctor also made fun of Read’s chronic illness, in one instance texting “she’s got a leaky balloon knot. Leaks poo.”
The trooper maintained in court that the comments didn’t impact the integrity of the investigation or the evidence in the case, which he said pointed to Read.
“I’ll also say that this is the subject of a criminal investigation and trial and therefore its inappropriate for me to speak more to that at this time,” Healey said before walking away.
