The suspect in a double stabbing in Brockton that left one person dead was arrested in Vermont Wednesday morning, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office announced.
Kevin Digregorio, 33, of Randolph, was found by Vermont State Police and the U.S. Marshals as he slept in a car along the road in Lunenberg, Vermont. Wednesday morning, Cruz’s office said in a statement. He was arrested and will be arraigned on murder charges in Brockton District Court.
Massachusetts State Police responded to the stabbing at 23 Melrose Ave. Monday night, according to Cruz’s office. Two men were taken to area hospitals.
One victim, who has been identified as 59-year-old William Hewlett, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The second victim, a 61-year-old man, was treated and released from South Shore Hospital.
Massachusetts State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Digregorio after investigating the stabbings, the D.A.’s office said. Preliminary investigation suggests the incident “does not appear to be a random act of violence,” according to officials.
