Dozens displaced after Dorchester fire spreads to multiple buildings

The narrow walkways between the triple deckers made it difficult for firefighters to gain access to the blaze, the fire department said.

Nearly three dozen people are displaced after an early morning fire in a Dorchester three decker spread to the adjacent buildings on Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to the occupied three-family at 7 Carson St. around 5 a.m., according to the Boston Fire Department. The heavy fire in the rear part of the building had jumped to the adjacent buildings, prompting the department to order a 4th alarm.

According to the department, the narrow walkways between the triple deckers made it difficult for firefighters to gain access to the blaze from the front of the building. In addition, the power lines in front of the house made it difficult for firefighters to use aerial ladders so instead they needed to use ground ladders.

“An aggressive interior and exterior attack helped companies to quickly contain the fire and stop the spread to more buildings,” the department wrote on social media.

Just before 6:30 a.m., the fire was knocked down, with all residents and pets accounted for.

Boston fire said that 33 people were displaced by the blaze and two elderly residents were rescued from a third floor unit.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries, according to the department.
