A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being shot on Boston Common Monday night.
Dana Loder, 30, of Lynnfield fled the scene and was later arrested, Boston police said, although he isn’t charged directly for the shooting.
At around 10 p.m., BPD officers patrolling the area of Tremont and Winter streets heard gunshots coming from the Common. They also saw multiple people running in different directions, away from where the gunshots were coming from.
Officers saw Loder running away while clutching the front of his waistband with two hands. Despite demands for him to stop, Loder allegedly led police on a short foot chase. Police said they saw him discard a gun while running. They eventually arrested him near 131 Tremont St. and recovered the firearm, officials said.
The shooting victim was found on Boston Common shortly after Loder was arrested. They were brought to a local hospital and remained in critical condition Tuesday morning. Their identity has not been released.
Loder was scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court. He faces charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, resisting arrest, and possession of crack cocaine, according to court records. Loder has a lengthy criminal history and has faced gun and drug charges before.
Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is urged to contact BPD detectives at 617-343-4470. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).
