Museum of Fine Arts to offer free admission on Juneteenth
Free admission is available for Massachusetts residents from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.
The Museum of Fine Arts is offering free admission to Massachusetts residents on Juneteenth (June 19) in honor of the holiday.
Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in 2021, commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States and “African American resilience and achievement,” according to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The MFA will be honoring Juneteenth with an open house, which will feature drop-in activities and the opportunity to explore relevant exhibits.
“Now, more than ever, we join together to affirm all belong at the MFA, and celebrate the many ways museums create conversations in our communities,” said MFA Director Matthew Teitelbaum in a statement.

Drop-in activities include a Juneteenth-centered performance from the Boston City Singers, a performance from the Boston Latin School Step Squad, and an art-filled workshop from Wee the People called “Blackness Is Monumental.” Free guided tours will also run three times throughout the day.
Highlighted exhibits include “Comrade Sisters: Women of the Black Panther Party” and “Four Womxn: New Musings on Blackness.” Visitors are also invited to explore the work of Black artists in the Americas through the “Black Arts and Artists” audio tour.
Including Juneteenth, the MFA hosts four annual open houses that offer free admission for state residents. The next open houses will take place on Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October 14, 2024), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20, 2025), and Memorial Day (May 26, 2025).
