On Thursday evening, a water geyser surged across Boylston Street in Boston during construction at the Hynes Convention Center.
Video footage shared on social media shows a massive stream of water pouring from the building at around 6 p.m., hitting cars and soaking the street as it surprises passersby.
On Friday morning, the Boston Water & Sewer Commission said it was not a water main break but an “internal issue.” The commission is still investigating what happened.
If I left my office less than a minute sooner I think I would’ve been swept across boylston. This water burst out of Hynes convention center in front of my eyes. pic.twitter.com/Lyixws0FaB

WHDH reports that construction was underway when the water flooded the streets. A contracting crew was first on the scene, and first responders put up caution tape where the water came from.
The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority did not return a request for further information Friday morning.
