One dead in three-car domino-effect collision in Concord

A Medford man, identified as 70-year-old Steven Marchand, died in the three-car crash.

Route 2, also known as the Concord Turnpike, where the road was shut down for two hours on Wednesday after a fatal three-car collision.

One person died and another was injured in a chain-reaction car crash on Route 2 in Concord around 1 p.m on Wednesday.

The victim was identified by Massachusetts State Police as Steven Marchand, 70. Marchand was driving a 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Route 2 when he rear-ended another vehicle, which then rear-ended a third vehicle, police said.

The second vehicle was operated by a 26-year-old from Stoughton who suffered minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

Both the 26-year-old from Stoughton and Marchand were transported to a nearby hospital. Marchand was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

State Police closed the left travel lane of Route 2 for around two hours on Wednesday.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the State Police and collision and crime scene analysts.
