Roxbury Community College announced Tuesday that Jonathan Jefferson, who has most recently served as chief academic officer and provost at Lesley University, will serve as the school’s next president.

In a statement, the college praised Jefferson’s “more than 30 years of experience in strategic planning, academic leadership, consulting expertise,” as well as his “dedication to fostering leadership development.” He was unanimously nominated for the position by the school’s Board of Trustees and his appointment was approved by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, the college said in a press release.

In a statement, Jefferson said he is “humbled and honored” to serve as the community college’s 18th president.

Jefferson holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Morehouse College, a master of engineering from Cornell University, a master of science from Capella University, and a doctorate in management from Colorado Technical University, according to RCC.

He will take on the role of president on July 1.
