On Monday night, officials discovered the body of an approximately 40-year-old man in the Norton Reservoir.

Emergency workers responded to a report around 7:30 p.m. on Monday that a man had jumped off a boat into the reservoir and did not surface, the Norton Fire Department said in a statement. The callers also noted that they tossed the man a life preserver, which he did not grab.

Norton fire, Norton police, Massachusetts State Police, and Massachusetts Environmental Police were the main officials on the scene.

The search operation began immediately with multiple diving teams. Eventually, the Environmental Police used sonar to locate the man, and State police divers recovered the body, the fire department said.

Later, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office identified him as Ronald Carty, 42, of Attleboro.

According to the DA, the drowning seems to be accidental, but the investigation remains open and active.
