A 4-year-old boy was rescued from an apparent near-drowning at Grews Pond in Falmouth on Sunday afternoon.
Beachgoers rescued the boy and performed life-saving resuscitation until he was breathing again, according to published reports.
The Falmouth Fire Department reported responded to “an unresponsive child who was not breathing and was pulled from the pond with bystanders performing CPR.”
Boston 25 reported that a 10-year-old girl spotted the boy in the water. She pulled him out of the water, asked if he was OK, and received no response. She then ran to shore yelling for help, the station reported.
Local resident Sean Cushing and others, including the mother of the 10-year-old rescuer, began to perform CPR.
“It was a long three minutes,” Cushing told Boston 25.
Eventually, they got the 4-year-old breathing again before he was transported by helicopter to a nearby pediatric trauma center. There were no further reports on his condition Monday.
