Divers have recovered the body of a missing swimmer who drowned overnight at Bare Hill Pond in Harvard, police confirmed.
A friend of the victim placed an urgent 911 call to Nashoba Regional Dispatch at about 12:28 a.m. Thursday, indicating the swimmer disappeared from view about 250 feet from the shoreline near Barba’s Point, the Harvard Police Department said in a news release.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and accessed the isolated site through a trail behind the Bromfield School, according to the release. Police said rescue teams from surrounding towns deployed multiple boats to aid in the search, while the Harvard Public Safety Drone Team provided aerial support.
Divers ultimately found the missing swimmer’s body around 2:09 a.m., according to police. Authorities have not publicly identified the drowning victim.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” Harvard police said in a statement. “We urge the public to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines when engaging in recreational activities in and around water bodies.”
The incident remains under investigation, according to police.
