Victim’s brother charged in fatal stabbing in Attleboro

James McCormick is charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery after the early Monday morning incident, officials said.

A man was arrested in Attleboro for allegedly fatally stabbing his brother early Monday morning, officials said. 

James McCormick, 51, is charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said in a statement. 

Attleboro police were called to the area between 5 and 6 Melissa Drive for a disturbance at about 3:25 a.m., the DA’s office said. 

Police found Richard McCormick, 47, of North Attleborough, outside of 5 Melissa Drive with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

James McCormick is being held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned in Attleboro District Court Tuesday morning, the DA’s office said. 

The incident is being investigated by State Police, the Bristol County DA’s office, and Attleboro police. 

No further information was released as of Monday afternoon.
