Warwick police searching for suspect who allegedly hit chief with car

The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are searching for a man accused of intentionally striking a Massachusetts police chief on Tuesday with a car.

Warwick police said Chief David Shoemaker was assisting with a motor vehicle stop around 3:19 p.m. when he was “deliberately struck twice” by the stopped driver’s car. The driver then fled the scene northbound, according to police.

Warwick police said they stopped their pursuit of the vehicle due to safety concerns as it continued toward Hinsdale, New Hampshire. In Hinsdale, police said the driver attempted to ram a Warwick cruiser before crashing near the school.

According to Hinsdale police, both the driver and passenger took off on foot after the crash on Brattleboro Road.

“The female passenger, who was identified as Estrella Crespo was apprehended and charged with disobeying an officer,” police said. “The male subject continued to flee on foot, unknown if he had a weapon or not.”

School officials were notified due to the proximity of the incident and were ordered to shelter in place.

On Wednesday, Hinsdale police said the man, who has been identified by authorities, was no longer believed to be in the area.

“Please be vigilant as we have not located the individual at this time,” police said.

Warwick police on Wednesday shared a photo of the suspect.
