Berklee student says a stranger punched her in the face and fled on Mass. Ave.

The alleged incident occurred at around 1:27 p.m. Friday at 169 Massachusetts Ave.

BOSTON – A Berklee College of Music student told police that she was punched in the face by a stranger and fell to the ground, striking her head, Friday afternoon, according to a police report. 

At around 1:27 p.m., police responded to 169 Massachusetts Ave., to meet with the student who was “visibly distraught” and had “swelling and redness on the right side of her face near her eye,” according to the report.

The student informed officers that she was exiting one of the college’s satellite campuses at the location when her attention was drawn to her two friends who were walking on the sidewalk in her direction.

As she was acknowledging her friends, an unknown man who was in between them, said, “Do I know you?” and proceeded to punch her on the right side of her face, causing her to fall and hit the back of her head, she told police.

Both friends, who are also Berklee College of Music students, shared similar accounts. The students said the man, “randomly punched her in the face,” and then fled across Massachusetts Avenue onto Clearway Street before continuing in the direction of Belvidere Street. 

Boston EMTs took the student to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for further medical evaluation.

The suspect is described as a Black man, about 6 feet tall, wearing dark-colored clothing including a hooded sweatshirt and dark red or black pants. He was carrying a black “bubble style” jacket. 

Boston police searched the area for the man, but could not find him. As of Wednesday morning, the Boston Police Department had not confirmed whether the man was found.
