Two officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man in Raynham Tuesday afternoon are both 12-year veterans of the department, Chief of Police David LaPlante announced Wednesday.
Sergeant Frank Pacheco and Officer Jennifer Lang fired their weapons when 35-year-old Stephen Maclean allegedly pointed a gun at them, LaPlante said. Both were placed on administrative leave after the shooting, following the department’s policy.
The two will remain on leave as the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate the shooting. A third officer was present during the shooting and only deployed their taser, District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Tuesday.
Police arrived at Maclean’s apartment Tuesday afternoon after his girlfriend called to report him acting erratically, including losing his job after going to work intoxicated that morning, she told police. Maclean was also arrested Monday on charges of witness intimidation and disorderly conduct related to a court case where his girlfriend is the defendant.
Quinn said at a press conference Tuesday that Maclean allegedly pointed a “21-round magazine” gun from the doorway of his King Philip Street apartment. Officers administered medical aid on scene, and Maclean died shortly after arriving a local hospital, the DA said.
The DA’s office released three excerpts from the officer’s body cameras. The videos do not have audio, and the faces of the officers were blurred. The videos are cut off before officers fire their weapons.
