A 42-year-old East Wareham man is facing several charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, after police say he crashed into an apartment building in Whitman on Monday morning.
Whitman police and fire responded to a 911 call reporting the crash at 412 South Ave. around 10:30 a.m., police said. At the scene, the first responders found an SUV had struck the corner of the apartment building.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
No one else was injured in the crash, and police said the integrity of the building was checked by the town’s building inspector.
Police said the driver, whose name has not been released, will be summonsed to court on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, possession of a Class A substance, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
