A student is facing disciplinary action after bringing a switchblade to a Stoneham elementary school Friday, officials said.
A Colonial Park Elementary School administrator was notified that a student might have a knife at school — and had told others about it and shown it to people — just before the school’s 2:40 p.m. dismissal on Friday, according to school officials.
The student was identified and searched, and the knife was found in their backpack, officials said.
The child’s family and the Stoneham Police Department were notified, consistent with school policy, officials said.
“At this time, it does not appear that the student intended to harm anyone, and no threats were made against the school community,” officials said. “However, the Stoneham Public Schools takes instances of weapons being brought to school seriously.”
The student will face consequences consistent with the Stoneham Public Schools Elementary Handbook, officials said.
