A Brockton man was charged with murder after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with his car twice and then repeatedly striking him with a brick Saturday, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney.
45-year-old Vasco Semedo was arrested on North Main Street in Brockton after the crash Saturday morning, officials said. The DA said that Semedo was detained at the scene by bystanders around 9 a.m. before police arrived.
50-year-old Stuart Smith was unresponsive on the road before he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. After being MedFlighted to Massachusetts General Hospital, he died there around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, officials said.
Brockton Police and state police troopers investigating the crash said witnesses and surveillance footage showed the alleged attack. Officials said Semedo struck Smith, reversed his car to strike Smith again, then left his car to hit Smith with a brick repeatedly while he was on the ground.
Semedo is scheduled to be arranged Monday in Brockton District Court.
