Off-duty police officer finds victim in fatal Dighton hit-and-run

Police are looking for what may have been a Toyota involved in the incident.

A man killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident on Route 44 in Dighton, Mass., was discovered by an off-duty police officer Thursday night.

Identified by police as Paul DeMoura, 57, the man was found around 10 p.m. Thursday by an off-duty Taunton officer near the Gulf gas station at 1995 Winthrop St. According to police, the officer saw an object in the breakdown lane and realized it was a man.

DeMoura was rushed to Morton Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police are possibly looking for a Toyota of unknown year or model. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dighton Police at 508-669-6711.
