The 64-year-old driver, whose name police have not released, allegedly shoved a student to the floor of a bus on Tuesday.

A 64-year-old Ashby school bus driver will be charged with assault and battery after police say he shoved a student to the floor of a bus on Tuesday.

The man, a resident of Ashby whose name police have not released, will be summoned to appear in court at a later date, Ashby police said in a statement.

Police said they were notified about the incident on Tuesday and in the course of the investigation, which included review of video from the bus, determined that the driver with Dee Bus Company shoved the North Middlesex Regional School District student while returning students to their homes.

According to police, Dee Bus Company is the contracted transportation provider for North Middlesex Regional School District.

In a statement, the school officials told The Boston Globe the driver will no longer be allowed to work for the district. They told the newspaper that the incident took place while the bus was pulled over and not running.

School officials told the Globe that the district will notify the Department of Children and Families about the incident.
