Employees in a Norfolk County office building had a scare Monday morning when they arrived at work to find that a window at their office had been broken.
Police responded to an office on Station Drive in Westwood Monday morning after employees found a front office window smashed, Dedham Animal Control said in a statement.
Upon checking the building, the only intruder found was a turkey wandering the cubicles.
The male turkey — known as a “tom” — is thought to have seen his reflection in the window and mistaken it for another tom.
The start of spring marks the beginning of mating season for wild turkeys. Males can become more aggressive during these months as they try to establish social dominance within the flock, according to MassWildlife.
Dedham Animal Control and the Massachusetts Environmental Police Department responded to the office to capture the turkey.
Once it was confirmed to be uninjured by the incident, the Tom was released into nearby woods, Dedham Animal Control said.
Photos from the incident show a large hole in a ground-level window of the office and the turkey wandering among filing cabinets and desk chairs.
