The death of a 56-year-old Weymouth woman, who had recently been reported missing, is being investigated as an apparent homicide, authorities announced Tuesday.
The body of Christine Ruth Mello was found in her home on Lake Street on Monday, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office. An autopsy was conducted Monday morning.
“We are investigating this as an apparent homicide,” Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a statement.
Investigators have so far determined that Mello may have been dead for “a number of days.”
“The information we have at this time, including the apparent passage of time, includes no indication of any ongoing danger to the community,” Weymouth Police Chief Richard Fuller said in a statement.
The investigation into her death is ongoing.
