New Hampshire authorities believe the operator of a concrete truck that crashed off of I-93 south in Concord on Monday afternoon may have suffered a medical emergency before veering off the road and striking 16 other vehicles.
Concord police and fire and New Hampshire State Police responded to the scene in the area of the Park and Ride on Stickney Avenue around 1:30 p.m. for a report of a crash involving a concrete truck, a release noted.
Further investigation indicated that the truck, which was not carrying any contents at the time, veered off the right side of I-93 and struck a guardrail near the Exit 14 off-ramp, kept going for roughly 100 feet until the guardrail ended, and continued to the right, crashing through a chain-link fence.
The truck then rolled down an embankment and into a parking lot near the Concord Coach Lines bus terminal, striking 10 vehicles before crossing Stickney Avenue and hitting six others in another parking lot, police said.
The truck finally came to a stop there and a Concord Coach Lines employee turned the truck off, as it was still in gear with the wheels spinning, police said.
The 57-year-old truck driver was taken to a local hospital and authorities believe he likely suffered a medical episode.
Police did not receive any other reports of injuries from the incident.
An investigation remains ongoing. Police ask that anyone with video footage or other information related to the incident, who have not already spoken with authorities, contact Trooper Jacob Plourde at 603-451-9329 or [email protected].
