A 4-year-old girl died Sunday after she was struck by a vehicle in Boston’s Seaport District, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian crash at the intersection of Congress and Sleeper streets shortly after 5 p.m., Boston police said. EMS rushed the gravely injured child to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
No one else was injured in the crash, according to police.
The driver remained at the scene and is not currently facing any charges or citations, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
Speaking with reporters at the scene Sunday evening, Boston Police Supt. Lanita Cullinane said the girl was with family members at the time of the crash.
It was not immediately clear whether the child lived in the neighborhood or if she was coming from a nearby location, according to Cullinane. The intersection of Congress and Sleeper streets is near the Boston Children’s Museum and Martin’s Park.
“We want to thank members of the community who came down and provided assistance to the victim and the family,” Cullinane said, per a Boston Police Department recording.
She added: “It’s a very emotional situation.”
