Two people, including a small child, were found dead in Warwick, R.I. Thursday morning in an apparent murder-suicide, police said.
Police responded to a report of a child shot at a home on Frawley Street around 8:24 a.m. The police had information that an alleged shooter was inside the home with a gun, Warwick police said.
When they entered the home, officers found the bodies of the small child, whose age was not specified, and a man who had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police called the crime, which is still under investigation, “horrific.”
“The members of the Warwick Police Department send our deepest condolences to the family members and those affected by this senseless and unimaginable act,” Warwick Police Chief Bradford Connor wrote in a statement.
Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi thanked first responders and Father Bob Marciano, a pastor at Saint Kevin Roman Catholic Parish in a post Thursday. The city is south of Providence, with a population of just over 83,000.
“I’ve already started receiving inquiries from people about how to help the family. If there is a call for help I will pass it on. Warwick is such a wonderful community that really looks out for each other,” Picozzi wrote on Facebook. “Say a prayer, hug your loved ones. We’ll mourn, and heal as a community.”
