Officials have identified the body pulled from the Charles River Tuesday as an 80-year-old Newton man.
No foul play or criminal activity is suspected in the man’s death based on an initial investigation, State Police said in a press release Wednesday.
The man’s body was first spotted by a dog walker at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, officials said. The body was found on the Boston side of the Charles River, east of the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge.
Medical personnel determined the man was deceased after State Police moved his body onto the shore, according to officials.
“Detectives subsequently visited the man’s apartment in Newton and spoke to persons who knew him,” the press release said.
The man’s identity has not been released.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. A medical examiner will make a determination on the man’s cause and manner of death, police said.
