Pedestrian killed after being struck by MBTA train in Newton, reports say

The incident caused “severe delays” for passengers on the Framingham/Worcester Line due to police activity.

MBTA riders on the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line experienced “severe” delays Tuesday afternoon after a pedestrian was struck and killed at a station, according to local reports.

The pedestrian was hit before noon at the Auburndale station, Boston 25 reported. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office confirmed the death to the news outlet. 

The MBTA alerted Framingham/Worcester Line passengers of “severe delays” in both directions due to police activity at Auburndale at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. 

Worcester Line trains 518 and 515 were both canceled due to police activity, MBTA said in an alert at about 11:40 a.m. Passengers on the Worcester Line train 516 were bused between Wellesley Farms and Boston Landing due to the incident.

Trains on the line were cleared to operate at a “reduced speed” through the Auburndale area at about 12:38 p.m., MBTA said. Regular service resumed on the line at about 2 p.m.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Newton Police did not immediately respond to requests for information about the incident by Boston.com.
