A 26-year-old living at a Rockland hotel currently housing migrant families is facing one count of aggravated child rape, the Plymouth County DA said.
Cory Alvarez is charged with one count of aggravated rape of a child with a more than ten year age gap, court records show. He is currently being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, DA Tim Cruz said.
He was arrested Wednesday night at the Comfort Inn at 850 Hingham St. in Rockland, the DA’s office said. Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Rockland police responded to a report of a sexual assault at the hotel, which is being used by the state as a shelter.
Cruz’s office noted the state and federal housing program in a release, and according to WCVB, both the alleged victim and Alvarez are migrants placed there through the shelter system.
The 15-year-old girl was transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment before Rockland police took Alvarez into custody, the release said.
Alvarez, a migrant from Haiti, pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, WCVB reported.
“The victim reviewed the photos, pointed at the defendant’s photo, and said that’s the man who raped me,” a prosecutor said.
Alvarez also had to surrender his passport, the DA said. The investigation into the alleged rape is ongoing, the DA said, and Alvarez’s dangerousness hearing is scheduled for March 22.
