One dead after ‘car-to-car’ shooting in Chicopee

A 35-year-old man died after an unknown attacker fired gunshots into an SUV on Route 391 in Chicopee Tuesday night.

Police are investigating a fatal “car-to-car shooting” that took place in Chicopee Tuesday night.

State Police received a report at about 8:45 p.m. regarding a shooting that took place on Route 391 in Chicopee. When they arrived at the scene, troopers learned that two victims from one of the vehicles involved had already gone to Baystate Medical Center for treatment.

A 35-year-old man was one of those victims. He was rushed to surgery but was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials have not yet released his name.

At the hospital, State Police detectives spoke with the surviving victim and two other people who were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Police believe that their SUV was traveling southbound on Route 391 in Chicopee when another vehicle pulled up along their driver side. Gunshots were then fired into the SUV, police said.

After the shooting, the occupants of the SUV stopped and tried to flag down help. No passing vehicles stopped, so they drove to the hospital, police said.

Investigators recovered evidence from the road where the shooting occurred. State and local police are investigating further. No suspects have been named.

Last month, a man was killed when an unknown attacker fired multiple rounds into his Mercedes while driving I-95 South through Foxborough. Authorities said they were investigating “one or more” dark-colored sedans that may have been driving erratically in the area of Exit 17. Police subsequently released video footage of a car believed to be involved. No arrests have been made.
