Authorities took 27 golden retrievers out of a home in Rhode Island after responding to reports of unlicensed breeding and “detrimental” living conditions in the residence, police said.
The dogs, seven adults and 20 puppies, were rescued March 8 after various officials responded to a residence on Alton Bradford Road in Hopkinton, R.I., the Hopkinton Police Department said in a statement.
The police department, Hopkinton Animal Control, RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and an environmental scientist responded to the residence to “investigate the unlicensed breeding of puppies as well as conditions detrimental to the health of the dogs,” according to the statement.
The resident of the property was “cooperative” and surrendered the dogs to the RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
The puppies and dogs tested positive for ringworm and will not be up for adoption for “several weeks,” SPCA said in a statement Saturday.
“We really appreciate your interest in these pups,” SPCA said. “Once we post these dogs on our website, we will then consider adoption applications.”
Adoption applications are not being considered while the dogs are receiving medical care, the SPCA said.
