A shelter in place was sent out for a one-mile radius from the incident location, and homes in the “immediate vicinity” were evacuated by police, according to the statement. Barnstable High School, Barnstable Intermediate School, Hyannis West Elementary School, Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center, and the Barnstable Community Innovation School were sheltering in place as a precaution, an official told Boston 25.

Barnstable police were able to contain the suspect in his home when they arrived on scene, and the Cape Cod Regional SWAT team took over command of the incident.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., police identified local schools that there was “no danger to any students attending nearby schools due to the fact that the suspect was confined to his home.”
