Barnstable police in standoff with barricaded suspect

Since the suspect is contained to his home, there is no danger to students and others in the area at this time, according to police.

Barnstable police are in an active standoff with a suspect barricaded within a home in Hyannis.

Police responded to the scene on St. Francis Circle around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of someone holding another person at knifepoint.

The home’s occupants were able to evacuate the house, but the suspect remained inside the residence as of 12:30 p.m., according to a release from police.

The Cape Cod Regional SWAT Team is leading negotiations with the suspect “with the hope of a peaceful resolution in the near future,” police noted.

Authorities said they initially activated shelter-in-place protocols for the one-mile radius around the residence and evacuated homes in the immediate vicinity. Around 10:30 a.m., they notified local school officials that there was no danger to any students in the area because the suspect had been contained to his home.
