A teacher was injured after getting involved in a fight between students at Brockton High School Monday.

The fight was recorded on video by another teacher, WHDH reported. It depicts a chaotic scene where multiple people are exchanging blows in a school hallway. The teacher tried to break up the fight and suffered a concussion. The students involved will “face discipline in accordance with district policy and procedures,” the district said in a statement to the news station.

Violence has been an ongoing issue at Brockton High. Last month, four of the seven members of the Brockton School Committee asked Gov. Maura Healey to send in members of the Massachusetts National Guard to help protect students and teachers. The officials floated the idea of using the National Guard members as hall monitors or possibly as substitute teachers.

Healey rejected the idea last week, saying that it would not be “appropriate” to use the National Guard in this way.

In January, staff members at Brockton High expressed their frustration and concern about the safety issues at the school. One administrative assistant, Cheri Mazzoli, told the School Committee that she was trampled by students rushing to witness a fight.

Complicating matters further is ongoing investigation into the city’s multimillion-dollar school budget deficit and turnover in the district’s leadership. School officials recently voted to place Superintendent Mike Thomas on paid leave. Thomas had been out on medical leave since last August. This coincided with the revelation that there was a $14.4 million deficit in the district’s fiscal year 2023 budget.

An independent external review is ongoing. Thomas has vehemently denied any sort of link to the missing funds. His paid leave is meant to preserve the investigation’s integrity, an attorney for the School Committee told Boston.com. It is not a disciplinary act.

Meanwhile, students and staff continue to be susceptible to physical violence and verbal harassment. The teacher who was injured in Monday’s fight was evaluated by the school’s nurse, according to WHDH. Brockton Police are reportedly investigating the incident.
