A New Hampshire man was arrested Monday on nearly 50 charges as part of a child sexual assault investigation, according to authorities.
John Bird, 67, of Newton, N.H. was arrested following an investigation by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force and the Newton and Sandown police departments.
According to the sheriff’s office, he is being held without bail on 11 charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault, 17 counts of felonious sexual assault, 10 charges of indecent exposure, and 10 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities are currently aware of two alleged victims, both juveniles, but police expect the investigation to continue into more jurisdictions and potentially other states, The Boston Globe reports.
“Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Child Advocacy Center of Rockingham County with this investigation.”
