Members of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded to Needham earlier this month after a local magnet fisher pulled out a “severely deteriorated” military ordnance from the Charles River.

The fisher, identified by NBC10 Boston as Sean Martell, recorded the entire ordeal for his YouTube channel, “Brockton Magnet Fisher.”

While fishing along Kendrick Street in Needham the evening of March 1, Martell discovered the object, which was 12 inches long and 4 inches wide, according to state police. After responding, state Bomb Squad Sgt. Paul Horgan and Trooper Scott Irish identified it as a “military projectile” in need of disposal.

Needham emergency personnel helped find a proper disposal site, where the Bomb Squad eventually countercharged the projectile without incident.
